According to a recent study by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the estimated economic impact from expenses by retirees wintering in the Rio Grande Valley - Winter Texans as commonly referred to in the Valley – totaled $780 million for the 2013-2014 season. Multiple and varied local businesses benefit significantly from expenditures derived from these visitors.
South Texas Tourism members believe that participating in trade shows showcasing the area’s beautiful resorts and retirement communities is not enough to compete with cities such as Las Vegas, Houston and San Antonio, among several others, who actively promote their destination among the Baby Boomer generation. Because of the members’ tourism and marketing experience, the focus shifts to managing our destination from a direct and regional perspective. The Valley has plenty of outdoor activities, unmatched quality services at incredibly competitive rates. The Valley is the nation’s best kept secret and folks need to know about the high quality retirement life they find here.
During the upcoming year, South Texas Tourism will continue to focus on trade show participation, hosting travel writers and will publish the 2nd edition of our South Texas Adventures magazine.
