The Cortez Hotel, built in 1928, was a glorious community center and attractive luxurious accommodations for land speculators and farmers
considering locating in the Weslaco area in the early part of the 20th century.
The Cortez, with 75 guest rooms, offered a barber and beauty shop, coffee shop, ballroom, beautiful courtyard, and was across the street from the
railroad station for easy access.
In 1998, the facility was restored to its original splendor. The Cortez has restaurants, various shops, barbershop and a beautiful ballroom and
meeting rooms.
