| The Museum is located at 900 Doherty. The museum opened in 2002 as a heritage center for Mission and the surrounding area. Located in Mission’s downtown district, the Museum offers exhibits and programs centered on images and artifacts showcasing the area’s rich history. Housed in the 1939 John Shary Building, a designated Texas Historical Landmark, the collection includes early maps, artifacts from ranching and pioneer days, and exhibit material representing the Texas Citrus Fiesta, local sports heroes, military past and present, Mission’s founder John Conway, La Lomita Mission and the estate of John Shary, the Father of the Texas Citrus Industry. Future plans include hands-on learning stations, a community meeting room, and exhibits on the history of area communities such as historic Peñitas and Los Ebanos.
