ALAMO LAND & SUGAR BUILDING
The first building (built in 1919 south of the pioneer rail tracks) on the original town site of
Alamo. This building housed the first bank, doctor, drug store etc. Alamo Land & Sugar
Company, the land developer who subdivided large ranches into small farms and launched
Alamo was based here.
In the 1940s the building was extensively renovated. Offices upstairs were replaced with
apartments and glass brick and other items were added to create an art deco look.
In 1998 it was restored to the 1940s look and now houses Alamo Inn, a birding bookshop, and
doctor’s offices.
The Alamo Inn is very popular with visitors as an affordable quiet place to stay and also to
obtain free birding information or to buy bird and nature books, binoculars, etc.
